Hi all, I have skype, and I'm wanting to buy a microphone. Never buying one, where do I begin? There are several types of microphones out there, so what one works best for you.

I've used (and like for voice chatting) the mics with headphones attached. That away no one gets feedback. Also, if you have a local Wal-mart, K-mart, Target, ETC, I'd suggest checking there. I personally have never put a major amount into mics, and haven't had to replace them often enough to worry about. LOL. We've had the same ones for more than 3 years, and they're just the simple ones from Wal-mart, and yes, we have more than one as we have more than one computer. Just my thoughts. *smile*

I tried several microphones on my computer and on other computers. I think you will never know if a microphone is going to sound good unless you try it. A microphone might sound good on one computer and it might sound bad on another. This is because computers have different sound cards especially laptops come with bad sound cards sometimes.
But i agree with the previous poster for skype a headset microphone might be what you want.

Ok. I think a headset microphone would work. I've heard of u s b headsets. Has anybody used one?

No, but I do have a USB desktop microphone. It works just fine. Just wear headphones when you're using one of those so the other person, (or people if you're in a conference), don't get feedback. I had a mouthpiece for the pair I'm wearing right now, but it just stopped working only a month after I bought these. grrrr.

I use a logitech USB microphone and love it. It has great range so when I'm on skype and have to go to the kitchen or across the roomm it still picks me up. lol Skype doesn't seem to give as much feedback as windows messenger in my opinion so I can put skype on speakers and not get much feedback.

-The only problem I have with buying a microphone is that I don't think my mom and dad would approve of me buying one. They've never heard of microphones, voice chat, skype, or anything like that. I'd sneak out of the house when my parents aren't home and buy a mike, but I don't have any good places to hide it.

just explain why you need one and what it's for. I find it hard to believe they don't know what microphones are.

I'll give that a try. If I get a mike, and I talk on skype, my parents would think I'm insane and think I was talking to myself.

Just explain what you are doing. They might find it cool. My parents think so. Besides, many people use voice chat.

But they may not like me voice chatting. You never know. I'd rather be safe than sorry.
